Inside Papyria: Stealth mode
Three founders, one stubborn problem in publishing, and the principles guiding how we’re building Papyria.
Why we started Papyria
We will help publishers deliver great books to readers faster by automating the slow, mechanical, and costly parts of publishing.
Papyria transforms the $151.9 billion global book publishing industry through AI-powered editorial automation. Papyria helps traditional publishers reduce production process time from weeks to minutes while maintaining editorial integrity through human-in-the-loop workflows.
Publishing teams swear by Word and InDesign - yet too much time is lost to manual checks, restyling, and back-and-forth revisions. Schedules slip, margins shrink, and quality depends on heroics, the unit economics of publishing a title has changed.
We’re three founders building Papyria to fix that: faster production, same standards, editors in control. Papyria helps traditional publishers reduce production process time from weeks to minutes while maintaining editorial integrity with human-in-the-loop workflows.
Who we are (by craft)
- Product & Workflows - builds processes that fit real editorial life, not the other way around.
- Publishing Craft - brings deep experience across editorial and production pipelines.
- ML & Infrastructure - delivers deterministic, secure automation with humans in the loop.
Different backgrounds, same conviction: the tools should adapt to the publisher, editor and author, not the other way around.
Our principles
- Attentive automation - AI assists; editors decide. Every change is reviewable.
- Fits your stack - works with Word and InDesign; 1 minute onboarding.
- Config-as-code - workflows mapped to house style guides and templates.
- Private by design - runs in your controlled environment (on-prem/private cloud).
- Reproducible - versioned prompts, models and pipelines so outcomes are explainable.
Where we are now
We’re in alpha with a handful of forward-leaning editors, production people, testing configurable workflows end-to-end on real manuscripts. Early results: hours of formatting down to ~30 seconds, first-pass copy-edits in minutes, and consistent style-guide compliance across titles.
What’s next
We’ll use this Inside Papyria series to share how we work, what we’re building, and what we’re learning—from workflow configuration to quality gates and deployment patterns.
